Village Greengrocer is dedicated to facilitating local food systems within our community - Madrid, New Mexico and the surrounding area. We believe in creating systems that support the daily lived experiences of our neighbors. We work to create systems that keep resources - products and natural resources, as well as knowledge, skills, money, creative energy - within our community, serving one another to strengthen our collective self-sufficiency. We are committed to food justice, so our business model focuses on accessibility. Village Greengrocer addresses a geographic food desert by offering a local retail outlet, commits to financial accessibility by making sure farmers/producers are paid fairly while keeping retail prices affordable, and enthusiastically educates our community about the origins and uses of local, seasonal food.
We are seeking locally-cultivated mushrooms, nuts, more potatoes/other cold storage crops, more varieties of grains and beans, corn products (posole, atole, etc), and possibly locally-produced dairy and bread at some point in the future.
Our capacity varies seasonally.
We require delivery, with some exceptions. Produce should be washed, packaging/labeling depends on the product and vendor.
Email villagegreengro@gmail.com with a price/availability list, business description and location.
We prioritize purchasing based on location - the closer to Madrid, the better! We do not require organic certification, but organic farming practices are preferred. We like to work with producers who share our values of food access and food justice and meeting the needs of our community.
By check at time of purchase, or by digital invoice.
