What We Produce
Backyard gardens can help families save money on produce, promote wellness, and promote collective action in communities. We grow tomatoes, lettuce, peppers including green & yellow peppers, we also grow five types of peppers such as habanero, poblano, serranos, small Asian and sweet peppers. The garden also produces squash, zucchini, carrots, onions and various herbs.
We enjoy it! We also blanch, can, purée and freeze for the winter. The excess we trade with other gardeners for local eggs, kale and okra, etc. whatever the yield maybe.
We do not sell, we trade with or give away excess to neighbors.
On occasion and currently we have to deal with the dry weather conditions for example; drought and winds. We are interested in water conservation and soil protection techniques . We could use on occasion consultation with or help or face to face access to other larger scale farmers who could provide guidance and encouragement. In other words” learn from the experts”
We harvest (capture) our water via roof run-off into an underground cistern. We use a timer to pump out the water at 3-5 minute per day.
